COCKFIELD

My 7th Great Grandfather, William COCKFIELD arrived on the first ship (the Carolina)

that established the first successful South Carolina settlement in 1670 at what

is now Paris Island. They actually settled at Albemarle Point, across the Asheley

River from present day Charleston. William arrived as a servant for Paul SMITH,

however after Paul died in 1672, he married Paul's widow Elizabeth. Their son

John COCKFIELD married Rachel BULL (these are my 6th Great Grandparents - twice).

Rachel was the daughter of the Burnaby BULL who also arrived on the Carolina.
