Another source http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/4399/huguenot.html, Virginia Marin says -

My immigrant ancestor, Pierre Villeponteaux, born in 1658, was a native of Bergerac in Guyenne. He was naturalized in

England in 1691, with his wife, Jeanne (nee Rivasson), and their three children. Pierre was made Freeman in the colony of

New York on April 13, 1692. He took the oath of allegiance at New Rochelle in 1698. He gave service to the Colony as

attorney-at-law. Pierre also served as an Elder in the French church in 1695 and 1696. He was a landowner in New York prior

to 1701, when he removed to the Colony of South Carolina, where he settled in St. James Parish, Goose Creek, near

Charlestown, where already in 1694 he had purchased property.

This below is from Elizabeth Thomas -

The children of Pierre and Jeanne are:

1. Marie b. 1683 d. 4/2/1771 m. 10/29/1710 to Gideon Faucheraud

2. Peter b. 1685 d. 4/25/1748 m. Frances, the daughter of Rev. Paul and Frances L'Escott

3. Jane b. 1686 and died young

4. Isabel b. 1691 and died young

5. Susannah b. 1694 d. 1749 unmarried

6. Rachel b. 1696 d. 11/23/1771 m. first John Moore of St.Thomas Parish; married second Abijah Russ; married third Rev. Bartholomew Himel

7. Zachariah b. 1698 d. 1780 in Goose Creek. No record has been found of his wife's name prior to marriage, except in the

Wright family Bible, where it is given as Amariah Perkins. This has never been proved, and is a future research project.

The children of Marie and Gideon Faucheraud are:

1. Jane

2. Mary who married John Paul Grimke and their children are Mary, Ann and John F.

3. Charles who married Jane, the daughter of George Smith, and their children are Elizabeth and Mary who married John

Alston.

The children of Peter and Frances are Paul, Anna, Deusel, Frances, Francis and Benjamin

"Gov. Rutledge to Gen. Marion December 4, 1781. Dear Sir: I have received yours of the 1st inst, by Mr. Villepontoux; such men as the and are to be excepted in the proclamation. You may either take sufficient bail for their appearance at Court and the Assembly when they meet, or send them to me, as you think proper, if they should come out. I am much of your opinion, that several scoundrels will quit the town and surrender themselves in order to obtain a pardon by serving six months in the militia, but it does not follow that they will be pardoned. Those whose conduct and character have been so infamous, that they cannot, consistent with policy or justice be admitted to the privileges of Americans, may and probably will be sent back. Be pleased to make a return to me, as soon as the limited time by the last proclamation expires, of all who have surrendered agreeably to it. As Gen. Greene set off last Tuesday for Four Holes and the lower part of the country, I am in hopes you have seen each other before now, and I am inclined to believe that his position will be such, even before his reinforcements arrives at Head Quarters, that the enemy will not think it safe to venture into the country. After those reinforcements arrive, I think he will keep them below the Quarter House, unless Charles Town should be reinforced, which I do not think will be immediately. The surrender of Cornwallis must perplex Clinton as well as the Ministry, and I apprehend he will wait for their directions what step to take next. I do not think, however, that the enemy will evacuate the town until they see a force on our part, sufficient to compel them to do so. They are under great apprehension (and I hope with good reason) for their West India possessions. You do not say what you have done with Barnes; you may either send him (under guard) to Gen. Greene or to me. I am, with great esteem, dear sir, Your very humble servant, J. RUTLEDGE (No. 223 From Documentary History of the American Revolution, by Gibbes, Volume 3, p. 218) Doc ID: Gibbes, v. 3, p. 218 Date: 12/04/1781"

According to the Dupont family, it is evident that the Villepontoux families had dealing with them, besides living somewhere close in the vicinity. Their remarks are also due to the fact that Zachariah Villeponteaux & Loveridge Drake's daughter, Sarah Loveridge Villeponteaux (1779-aft 1824) married Hugh McCauley, & had 2 children, of which one named Sarah Loveridge McCauley (1807-1841) married Francis Green Coachman (1805-1833) & had 3 children. Francis Green Coachman was the son of John Coachman & Hannah Green. The Coachman family were associated with the Dupont family also, since John Coachman's brother, Benjamin had married Sarah Blake Smith, & had 6 children, of which Sarah Coachman (1759-1793) married Charles Dupont (1744-1793) & had 12 children. Charles Dupont was the brother of Jane Dupont, (wife of Benjamin Villepontoux) & both children of Abraham Dupont (1699-1760) and Jeanne Elizabeth Dupree (1709-1776).

Zachariah's & Amariah's son, Zachariah (1731-1788), was married to Loveridge Drake, & had 8 children, of which one of them was named Benjamin Drake Villepontoux (1771-1848), but not married. Their daughter, Margaret married Gideon Faucheraud Dupont. Benjamin Drake's brother, Drake Villepontoux (1765-1827) was married to Mary Lockwood (1770-aft 1805), & had 5 children, of which one was named Benjamin Drake (1804-1880) who was married to Eliza Windham or Wyndham (1809-aft 1850), & they had 4 children named William Wheeler, Zachariah, Benjamin Drake, & Peter. From this latter Benjamin Drake Villepontoux (1831-1886) who married Catherine Burger McQuire (1832-1900) came 9 children named Benjamin Drake, James Henry, Ida Corinne, Helena A., Edward & Arthur (twins), Eliza Ann, Clara Evelene, & Alvin Horace. From this latter Benjamin Drake's child, Ida Corinne Villeponteaux (1861-1927) married Friend Edward Wyndham (1859-1940), & they had 9 children named Emmaline Aurelia, Isabelle, Ernest Edward, Edna Gertrude, Ida Violettie, Catherine (Kate), Garnetta Friend, Calhoun Lagree, & Janie Wyndham. From Calhoun Lagree Wyndham (1903-1966) who married Mary Gertrude Morris (1906-1984) came Friend Edward Wyndham (1928-1997), Calhoun Lagree Wyndham (1929-1955), & Helen Lagree Wyndham (1935-2001). This last mentioned child was Elizabeth's Physical Education teacher at Foothill College in Mountain View, California, & was my cousin. She had left South Carolina, disappointed that she could not marry a man who she found out was her cousin, & therefore moved to California taking the job offered her to teach at the new Foothill College as their first women PE instructor and coach of volleyball, tennis, & other sports. Elizabeth can remember when she went back to her brother's funeral, plus her telling her a few years later about her father's funeral.

Zachariah Villepontoux & Amariah Perkins had also Peter (1733-1769) & was married to Sarah Smerick (1749-aft 1770) & had one son, named Peter (1770-1799) who married Sarah Lockwood (1772-1852), & had 4 children named Peter, Zachariah, Sarah Bolton, & Mary Cantey Villeponteaux. It is this Mary Cantey Villeponteaux (1794-1833) who married Rev. William States Lee (1793-1875) & had 10 children: William Hollinshead, Dorothea S., Caroline Lockwood, James M., Dr. Joshua L., Henrietta Mary Villeponteaux, Sarah Georgiana, Rev. William States Lee, Jr., Elizabeth, & Joseph Dill Lee. It is from Joseph Dill Lee (1831-1856) who married Sarah Mitchell Johnson & had 3 children named Mary Cantey Villeponteaux, Joseph Dill Lee Jr., & Stephen States Lee. It is from this Mary Cantey Villeponteaux Lee (1857-aft 1890) who married Robert Zaccheus Wright (1825-1885) & had 6 children named James Lee, Robert Zaccheus Wright Jr., Mamie Zee, Stephen, Annie, & Sallie Wright. It is James Lee Wright (abt 1880-?) who married Bertha Beatrice Templeton (1881-1962) & had Mamie Lee Wright (1906-2007), who married Samuel Pryor Babb, & had Virginia Lee Babb.

Benjamin Villepontoux & his wife, Jane Dupont, had 7 children, all girls, of which one was named Charlotte Manby Villepontoux.

Charlotte Manby Villepontoux, b: 15 Jun 1773, Charleston, baptized in St. Philip's Parish, & died 9 Mar 1844 in Charleston Dist., SC, & buried in Stoney Creek Independent Church, Prince William Parish, SC., my ggg grandmother, who married William Miles Heyward.

Rev. Paul L'ESCOT was the minister of the Charles Town Huguenot Church for

many years. He had a daughter, Frances, who married one Peter

VILLEPONTEAUX, a wealthy Huguenot. He died about 1747 and she about 1752.

They had one daughter, Frances, and four unnamed sons.

The date for Frances L'ESCOTT above must be wrong. The will for her husband does not mention

her. The incorrect date probably came from mother's will, which lists the name as Frances

L'Escott. She must have died before her husband who died in 1747.
