Notes for Rev. Samuel TIMMONS


Pastor of old Elim Baptist Church, Effingham, SC until about 1823-4. Samuel performed funeral for his Mother Mary, and performed 2nd marriage ceromony for his Father. See Happy Heritage pages 99-100 for more.

Owned 1530 acres on West side of Pee Dee (according to law suit filed 3 Jan 1839 by oldest son Isaac R. Timmons against administrators William Timmons and his widow Elizabeth, extract in Marion County Extracts from Equity Rolls by Utley, #246 page 81.)

According to the Captain John Timmons Book by Dodge, Samuel was converted in the 1790's by a slave minister from the Ebenezer Church known as "Professor Moses". When Moses died in 1825 at the age of 100, Rev. Samuel paid tribute to the black clergyman.
