1850 Census Williamsburgh District REEL NO: M432-860 PAGE NO: 125B

Abraham Moore and his wife, Mary "Polly" Evans, were settlers of the Moore's Crossroads and Lake City areas of what is now

Florence and Williamsburg Counties. They were farmers or as they were known back then "plantation owners". They had a

plantation which consisted of well over 2050 acres. Here they raised their 6 children in a modest log home. They did own

slaves as was customary back then and one slave we know of is mentioned in courthouse records. Her name was Betty and she was bought for $575.00 on January 7, 1840. Only history and the ghosts of the past know what fate befell Betty. Was she used as a "Mammy" or was she a field hand? No one will ever know. We do know that her former masters were named John T. Scott and Sarah M. Lowry. As our research has progressed, various members of the family believe that Abraham's parents were James Moore and Jemima McAllister. So far this is just circumstantial, but as we dig deeper we believe it to be true.

There is a James Moore, Williamsburg District, P 812 1800 Census.

Abraham and Mary are believed to have been born around 1790. They show up in the census records as husband and wife starting with the 1820 census. The 6 children of Abraham and Mary are, Mohala Moore, Jemima Moore, John J. Moore, Robert Abraham Moore, Evander E. Moore, and Benjamin C. Moore.
